The unbelievable scenic California 1 route took us to Big Sur and then later on to Los Angeles. Even though the weather wasn't great, we still got a few hours of sunshine. Driving along the rugged coast with views over the vast Pacific ocean, under circling California Condors, is a paradise-like road trip! It rivals the raw beauty of the great ocean road in south-east Australia, but has a distinctly different feel to it, which is hard to describe for me. We were lucky to get to see a large colony of elephant seals. The funny looking males are enormously huge and can weight up to 5000 lbs! This little stretch of the country is one of my favourite regions we have visited on this road trip!
